Today was my first time ever under the knife with anaesthetic and the whole bit. It wasn't that bad...so don't ever be anxious about it. If I can do it, so can you...believe me- I avoid talking about needles, giving birth, blood, bandaids etc. at all costs. The doctors and nurses were unbelievably sweet- Mike, I'm so glad you're becoming a doctor because the humour and general talkativeneess makes a difference.
When I woke up I felt so comfortable and cozy, with no pain at all! Thank God that it's over! I did it! Yesssssssssss...

Congratulations on your first surgical experience, Bethany! I've never gone "under the knife" with general anaesthetic, but I have watched several others cope with the horrors of the operating room, and I have had "surgery" on an ingrown toenail using local anaesthetic (that was pretty painful!).
Sounds like you felt pretty relaxed after waking up from your ideal. You probably would have been slightly more anxious if you had known that as soon as you "went to sleep," your clothes were immediately ripped off (leaving you lying fully naked on the operating table, in a room full nurses, surgeons, and students). Any part of your body that was not covered up with sterilized cloth (green blankets) was swabbed with iodine (did you notice that strange, brown residue on certain parts of your skin when you woke up?).
Kind of scary, isn’t it? Seriously though, I hope you’re feeling better and that you have a speedy recovery.
Now, where is that morphine pump? I need another hit of drug-induced bliss.
